Handoff — a Claude skill that moves your work between chats without losing the plot.
Every long AI chat eventually gets worse. Not because the model got dumber — because the context window fills up, and once it does, the chat starts forgetting decisions, repeating old ground, and giving you weaker answers right when the work gets interesting. The fix is a fresh chat. The catch is re-explaining everything you already covered.Handoff kills that catch. Run it once in your overloaded chat, and it reads back the whole session and produces a single, paste-ready brief — the real goal, every decision (and why you made it), what worked, what to not bother retrying, what's still open, and the literal next step. Paste it into a new chat and the AI picks up exactly where you left off. No two-hour recap. No cold start. What you get: The Handoff skill, ready to drop into Claude Works for any kind of work — coding, writing, planning, research Separates what's settled from what's still moving, so a fresh chat doesn't re-litigate what you already nailed down A setup that takes a couple of minutes and saves you that on every single handoff after Built by someone who spends all day in these chats and got tired of starting over. It's a small thing. It just happens to fix one of the most annoying things about working with AI seriously.---Setting up the Handoff skill in Claude Open the handoff.skill file I sent you on desktop — install won't work from the mobile app, you need claude.ai in a browser or the desktop app. When the file opens, click the Save skill button on the file card. That installs it into your Claude profile. That's it. To use it, just type /handoff (or say "hand this off to a new chat") whenever a conversation is getting long and you want to move to a fresh one. It'll write you a short brief to paste into the next chat. Note: you only install it once on desktop — after that it's on your account and works in any of your chats.
