Pattern Interrupt Guide
You know what to do, until one moment changes how you feel. ·A message is not answered. ·The result is slower than you expected. ·Someone disappoints you. You feel fear, pressure, frustration, or doubt rising and suddenly you are overthinking, procrastinating, reacting, changing the plan, or questioning everything again. You feel overwhelmed and stuck! You may believe the pattern begins with the behaviour. But very often, it began a few minutes earlier:Something happened. You decided what it meant. That meaning changed how you felt. And that emotional state began deciding what you did next. The Pattern Interrupt is a simple, practical guide that helps you catch this invisible moment before the old reaction completely takes over.Inside, I walk you through five questions: What actually happened? What did I immediately make it mean? What emotion did that meaning create? What did that emotion make me want to do? What else could also be true—and what is my next believable choice? This is not another guide designed to give you more information to collect. It is a tool to help you practise using what you already know in the moment you need it most. You can use it when you feel yourself: overthinking; procrastinating; reacting emotionally; questioning your decision; changing direction from fear; withdrawing; looking for reassurance; or wanting to give up because the result is not here yet. The goal is not to never feel fear, disappointment, frustration, or impatience again. The goal is to notice what is happening sooner, so that the old reaction is no longer the only response available to you.Your emotion is information. It does not have to become your instruction.Created by Susanne Westplate, Awareness MentorAwareness Library · No. 1
