What this isCold Open is a single tool (one file, no install) that drafts personalized cold emails for you. You give it what you're offering and a list of people you want to reach — plus one specific thing you noticed about each of them — and it writes a real, ready-to-send email for every person on your list. Ask for a follow-up sequence and it writes those too, each one aware of what the last email already said. It's not a list of templates you fill in yourself, and it's not a prompt you paste into ChatGPT one person at a time. You give it a whole list at once, pick how you want the email to open, and it drafts every one, back to back. One honest thing up front: this tool doesn't research your prospects for you — you supply the one detail that makes each email personal (a LinkedIn post, a recent launch, whatever you noticed). If you already do a little homework on who you're emailing, this turns that homework into a finished, well-structured email. It won't invent that homework for you. What you need before you start A modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) Your own Anthropic API key You don't need any of these to already exist — here's the two-minute setup: Go to console.anthropic.com and create a free account. Go to Settings → API Keys and click Create Key. Copy the key (it starts with sk-ant-) — you'll paste it into Cold Open in Step 1 below. Add a small amount of credit to your account (a few dollars covers hundreds of emails — this tool is priced per email you generate, paid directly to Anthropic, not to us). Your key is never saved, uploaded, or sent anywhere except directly to Anthropic to generate your emails. Closing the browser tab clears it completely. How to use it1. Open the file. Double-click cold-open.html. It opens in your browser — nothing to install, nothing to configure.2. Connect your key. Paste your Anthropic API key into the box at the top of the desk. Click "Show" if you want to double-check you copied it correctly.3. Describe your pitch. In one or two sentences, say what you're offering. Specific beats polished — "a Shopify app that recovers abandoned carts automatically" works better than a mission statement.4. Pick your opening approach. Choose from four frameworks: Direct & concise — state the value and the ask up front, no warm-up Curiosity hook (AIDA) — open with something specific to them, build to the ask Problem → Agitate → Solve — name their likely problem, then the fix Founder to founder — casual, peer-to-peer tone Then choose whether you want just an opener, or a full opener + 2 follow-ups.5. List who you're writing to. One person per line, in this format: Name, Company, Role, What you noticed about themExample: Priya Shah, Nimbus Goods, Founder, posted on LinkedIn about high cart abandonment last weekDon't have a whole list ready? Click "Fill in an example" to see it work with sample data first.6. Click "Draft the letters." Cold Open works through your list one person at a time, showing you progress as it goes. Each finished email appears as its own card, along with a one-line note on why that particular approach works — useful if you're testing a few frameworks against each other.7. Copy, or redraft. Each card has a Copy button that copies the full email (or full sequence) ready to paste into Gmail, Outlook, or whatever you send from. Not happy with one? Hit Redraft to regenerate just that person's email without starting over.Frequently askedDo I need to know how to code? No. Opening the file and using it is the same as using any website. Is this a subscription? No — it's a one-time purchase. The only ongoing cost is whatever you spend on your own Anthropic API usage, which is typically a few cents per email. Will it work on Mac and Windows? Yes — it runs entirely in your browser, so it works on anything with Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. Can I use it for more than cold sales emails? Yes. It works just as well for freelance outreach, partnership pitches, or any email where you want a personalized opener and don't want to write each one from scratch. What if I don't have a specific detail for every prospect? Leave that part blank and it'll still write a solid, role-relevant email — it just won't be as sharply personalized as one where you've given it something real to work with.
